Poolside

Kellen had his first dip in Uncle Dan and Aunt Jo-Jo's pool today. This was his first swim. I think he thought it was some kind of a giant bath tub. We all took turns pulling him around the pool in his goldfish floaty. We had a lot of fun!

After a long day in the sun, he kicked back in the hammock and took a little nap (diaper style).

He loved it!

Tonight Kellen had his first feeding of rice cereal. I was surprised at how fast he picked it up. He loved it. I couldn't shovel it in fast enough. He ate the whole bowl.

Father's Day

The past two months have been such a busy time for us. We've had weddings, baby showers, Mother's Day, Our Anniversary, and Father's Day. So this past Sunday (Father's Day) we decided to take it easy. We slept in (as late as Kellen would let us, 7:30am), I made breakfast and we just hung out until it was time to leave for church. After church, Kellen and I took Daddy out to lunch, then we just spent the rest of the day doing a whole lot of nothing! It was so nice to have a bit of a break.

So far this week, I've had to work late 3 of the 4 nights. Its just a busy time for us, but it doesn't make it any easier. I've only been able to spend an hour or two a day with Kellen during the week. I don't know how working moms do this with mulitple children? I already feel so guilty leaving him for hours a day, I can't imagine trying to share only a few hours of my time a day with two or three of them. I'm thankful that he's such a good sleeper, but some nights I wish that he wouldn't fall asleep so early.

Cupcake Surprise

Last weekend I was in charge of making the favors for a friends baby shower. I decided to try decorating cupcakes. I was pleasantly surprised at how cute they turned out!

Rolling, Rolling, Rolling

Kellen rolled over for the first time on Sunday! He hasn't done it since, but he's come close.

Feedings

My husband and I are strong advocates for "scheduled" feeding. We had done alot of reading about this versus "on demand" feedings before Kellen was born. We had decided early on that we would attempt to schedule his feedings 2-3 hours apart from birth. When we were in the hospital the feedings were going good, however, we quickly learned that Kellen was struggling with jaundice and having trouble gaining weight. So after speaking with our pediatrician we decided to stick to 2 hour feedings. This left me doing nothing but feeding 24/7. Thankfully, after a few weeks he started to gain weight and began sleeping through the night. I was able to alter his feedings to every 3 hours. That left us feeding at 7am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm, 7pm, and 10pm. We continued this schedule for several weeks. Then one night I decided to cut out his last feeding to see if he would still sleep through the night. Of course when I woke up at 7am the next morning and he was still sound asleep, I thought, "wow, it worked". So I continued to only feed him 5 times a day (total of 25 ounces). We followed this schedule for the past 6-8 weeks.

On Sunday, I decided to try to stretch his feedings to every 4 hours. So I started out with his first feeding at 7am, and then he ended up taking a really good nap in the morning until his next feeding at 11am. Then I fed him again at 3pm and 7pm. I still wasn't sure if he would sleep through the night; however, we did increase his ounces from 5 to 6 and gave him 7 ounces at his last feeding. This kept his total number of ounces the same (25). So he's in taking the same amount, just over longer periods of time. So far, so good! He's done really well with the transition, and now I don't feel like I'm spending all my time making bottles and feeding.

In the beginning it can be difficult knowing how much to feed and when to feed. However, I do feel that Kellen responds very well to the schedule. He knows what to expect, and he knows when its time for him to be hungry. I don't ever question whether or not he's crying due to hunger because I know how much he's eating and when he's going to be ready to eat again.

Sickness

This week has been a little challenging. Kellen has his first cold. I know he doesn't feel well, but he's been such a trooper. He hasn't cried much and still smiles all the time. I've had a bit of a cold myself, and my husband says Kellen is handling it much better than I am! Since he's still so young, the doctors don't really want to give him anything unless absolutely necessary. So we've just been trying to keep him comfortable and use the aspirator to suction his nose as much as possible. He was so congested the other evening, that he couldn't even suck his pacifier and had a lot of trouble eating. We found running the humidifier and keeping him elevated has helped. He seems a little better today and hopefully is on the road to recovery.

New Toy

Kellen loves his new jumper. He will play in there for an hour by himself. He's still a little to short to reach the ground so I've put our Study Concordance to good use!
